Hypernetworks of Complex Systems

چکیده

Hypernetworks generalise the concept of a relation between two things to relations between many things. The notion of relational simplex generalises the concept of network edge to relations between many elements. Relational simplices have multi-dimensional connectivity related to hypergraphs and the Galois lattice of maximally connected sets of elements. This structure acts as a kind of backcloth for the dynamic system traffic represented by numerical mappings, where the topology of the backcloth constrains the dynamics of the traffic. Simplices provide a way of defining multilevel structure. This relates to system time measured by the formation of simplices as system events. Multilevel hypernetworks are classes of sets of relational simplices that represent the system backcloth and the traffic of systems activity it supports. Hypernetworks provide a significant generalisation of network theory, enabling the integration of relational structure, logic, and topological and analytic dynamics. They provide structures that are likely to be necessary if not sufficient for a science of complex multilevel socio-technical systems.

Weighted Hypernetworks

Complex network theory has been used to study complex systems. However, many real life systems involve multiple kinds of objects . They can’t be described by simple graphs. In order to provide complete information of these systems, we extend the concept of evolving models of complex networks to hypernetworks. In this work, we firstly propose a non-uniform hypernetwork model with attractiveness,...

Hypernetworks for reconstructing the dynamics of multilevel systems

Networks are fundamental for reconstructing the dynamics of many systems, but have the drawback that they are restricted to binary relations. Hypergraphs extend relational structure to multi-vertex edges, but are essentially set-theoretic and unable to represent essential structural properties. Hypernetworks are a natural multidimensional generalisation of networks, representing n-ary relations...

Hypernetworks for Policy Design in Systems of Systems of Systems

Hypernetworks generalise networks and hypergraphs, allowing relations between many things to be modelled by hypersimplices with richer structure than hypergraph edges. They provide a way of integrating bottom-up and top-down micro, meso and macrolevel dynamics in multilevel systems. They provide a natural way of representing social structures, enabling polices to be tested by computation and bi...

Embracing n-ary Relations in Network Science

Most network scientists restrict their attention to relations between pairs of things, even though most complex systems have structures and dynamics determined by n-ary relation where n is greater than two. Various examples are given to illustrate this. The basic mathematical structures allowing more than two vertices have existed for more than half a century, including hypergraphs and simplici...
